The global pandemic situation is getting better as number of confirmed cases has been declining continuously since September. However, it is still too early to celebrate since in countries like Russia and Singapore, situation is even worse. In the 10th issue of Tianmu Global COVID-19 Resilience Ranking, China, New Zealand, Japan, South Korea and Norway are at top 5, while Singapore lost one more place as its confirmed cases and deaths continue to rise. India and the UK gained four places respectively while Romania lost five. Russia reported 34,303 cases of new coronavirus infections on Oct 17, a record-high number since the start of the pandemic, according to Reuters. The country also reported 997 deaths from the disease, bringing national death toll to 223,312. Vaccination in Russia goes on slowly. The country's vaccination rate merely passed 34 percent. Singapore on Oct 16 reported 3,346 new cases and nine more deaths, according to South China Morning Post. The country's cumulative confirmed cases rose to 145,120. The ranking was released by Tianmu News to provide a scientific, objective and fair system to evaluate different regions' comprehensive performance in fighting against and recovering from the pandemic. It picks top 50 economies in terms of annual GDP as statistical samples. The ranking will be updated once a week. |
